wedding shoes dyed to match

Important facts about dyeing shoes

Dyed shoes are not waterproof
The dyes are water-soluble and will bleed or stain if exposed to moisture. When you custom dye bridal and prom footwear, you can protect your shoes with a water repellent spray (which says on the label: “will not alter shoe color”). The spray will prevent most staining but will not make your bridal or prom shoes waterproof. Please be aware that once sprayed, the shoes cannot be re-dyed. You may want to keep your spray on hand in case of inclement weather and wait to spray the shoes until the day of your event if deemed necessary.

There is a difference between indoor and outdoor lighting
Ultraviolet light in the natural light spectrum will cause the color of your dyed bridal or prom shoes to look different outdoors from indoors. The color will also appear different between shaded areas and direct sun light. We suggest choosing the lighting where you will be most during the event. Please note that all professional cameras have a UV light filter in them therefore, do not base your lighting decision on where your pictures will be taken. Your pictures will look great no matter what light you are in!

Matching Colors
When dyeing shoes it is not always possible to get a perfect color match due to the textural differences between the shoe fabric and the dress material being matched (unless your shoes were made from the same fabric as the dress). A custom dye job by a master dyer can ensure that your bridal or proms shoes will be dyed properly to blend as close to the hue and depth of color as humanly possible.

How do I go about having my shoes dyed?

The best way to go about the dye process is to order the shoes online in white. Try them on to make sure they fit, then send them back to us with a swatch to be dyed. If you do not want to try the shoes on before having them dyed, simply give us a call and we can place your order over the phone for you. We will hold the shoes here while you ship us your swatch, then dye them and ship them out to you. Either way, a standard dye charge is $12.00 or $15.00 for custom color (providing the shoes were purchased from us) and takes about a week. A rush dye job is $25.00 (providing the shoes were purchased from us) and can be done within a day if necessary.

Please note:
All dyed work is FINAL SALE and NOT WATERPROOF! If you have any other questions, please feel free to give us a call or send us an email!

  4. Jennifer Parker says:

Hello, would it be possible to have shoes that were bought from another store, dyed the wrong color, re-dyed with you?

    • ron davis says:

      Hi Danielle,
It would depend on the brand of shoe and the prep time it takes to ready the shoe for dyeing, most of the time we charge $45.00. Feel free to give me a call and discuss the details.
      Kindest regards,

  5. Julia Cooper says:

I am considering buying some shoes but want them to be dyed a lilac color. They are white heels with lace, ribbon, and a leather heel. How can I tell if they will dye well or if you will be able to dye them?

    • Lisa Davis says:

      Hi Julia,
The fact that they have a leather heel is a good clue that they are not designed to be dyed. Leather is typically tanned prior to being built into a product and will not absorb dye.The rest of the shoe could potentially be dyed. Feel free to call me if you would like to discuss in greater detail.
      Kindest regards,

Absolutely, no problem at all! It would be a custom color. In the comment section, when placing your order, just state to dye the shoes David’s Bridal Juniper. No need to send a swatch, we have it!

  6. Lisa Davis says:

Typically the dyeing process takes a week to 10 days plus shipping time. We do offer “rush” dyeing, for an additional $10.00 and can usually ship within 1 to 2 business days.

    • Lisa Davis says:

      Hi Robyn,

You should order your shoe size unless there is a comment on the shoe that they either run 1/2 size small or 1/2 size big, dyeing the shoes does not change the fit. Feel free to call us if you have any questions on how a shoe fits.

  7. Linda Mckinney says:

I’m Typically a size 7 ww, would I need to size up since those shoes are a medium? And can u dye the bow one color and the rest of the shoe a different color?

    • Lisa Davis says:

Hi Linda, if you are truly a 7 double wide, sizing up still may not give you a good fit, the shoe might still be too tight in the width but now too long in length. We can dye a bow one color and the rest of the shoe another color but in your case, you might want to try the shoe on before having them dyed.

  8. Misty Walker says:

How do I get a swatch? I want them to match a dress. I can’t just cut a piece of the dress the send you. If I send you the dress, will you send it back?

    • Lisa Davis says:

Hi Misty, a piece of fabric from the dress does work the best, however, if that is not possible you can send something in the same color. I have received many different things as swatches such as: paint swatches, napkins, ties, socks and the list goes on! Feel free to call if you need assistance.

    • Lisa Davis says:

      Hi Angela,
That depends if the shoe is meant to be dyed. Typically, shoes that are purchased in ivory have nylon mixed into the material. If you plan on dyeing a shoe, we recommend purchasing a dyeable shoe.
